The most common question people ask is how much does a removal service cost, i.e. how much does it cost to move goods or a removal. Even more often, most people wonder why there is a difference in charges between movers for the same item and why there is still a difference between the same movers for the same transport at different times.
Factors that determine how much transport costs
Below we will list the factors that generally determine the cost of a move or relocation:
- Location of receipt
- Location of deposit
- Type of goods
- Weight of goods
- Transfers per month
- Volume of Goods
- Length of Goods
- Additional transport services
- Period of time of transfer
The combination of all of the above determine the price of a move . But let’s take a closer look at each factor and how much each factor increases or decreases the price of a move and delivery and through them let’s answer how much a house move or transfer costs.
Place of Receipt of Goods or Construction
The location where goods are picked up is important for transport costs as the place where the goods to be transported are picked up can facilitate or hinder loading. For example, a narrow place in the city that requires a certain type of truck to access increases the cost of transport or moving while a location that is easily accessible reduces the price (e.g. a loading from the BIC of a city by forklift). Even if the place you are requesting the pickup is miles away from the city the mover serves and that is a factor that can increase the price.
Location of Deposition
What applies to the place of receipt applies to the place where the goods are deposited. The factors that increase and decrease the price are the same as above.
The type of goods carried
What is in the boxes or pallets you want to transfer? By giving an extreme example, we will try to explain how the type of goods being transported determines the price. Consider transporting a truck with gold and a truck with iron, both weighing 20 tons. The cost of transporting the truck carrying the gold will be much higher than the cost of transporting the iron. Still of great importance for smaller items is the packaging of the item being transported.
The weight of the goods
The weight factor determines the price of the transport as we can load up to 25 tons of goods on a trailer truck with a maximum of 25 tons of goods. The heavier the goods to be transported, the higher the price. A piece of iron may not have a large volume but may weigh 200 kg so the cost will be high. Also the heavier the cargo to be transported, the higher the cost for the truck.
How many transfers the customer makes per month
Agreements made with the company in question and the transport work they have to do play a big role in a transport. For example, a company that transports large volumes daily with a transport company will have a lower tariff than a company that has a small volume and a few dozen parcels per month or a private company. This is why we often see when a very large company pays for the transport they have a very low tariff, while when we go to pay for the transport of a parcel the cost is a multiple of the aforementioned tariff. Think of it like the discount policy that large companies have in the trade when the customer exceeds certain orders monthly or within a year.
Volume of goods carried
Above we talked about the weight of a commodity, but the volume of the commodity is equally important. A truck can hold some specific cubic meters of goods. If we load a car with styrofoam the weight may not exceed 200 kg out of the 25 tonnes that a truck can load but nothing else can be loaded as the styrofoam will take up the entire height, width and length of the car.
Length of goods
In a truck that is 5 metres long by 2.4 if you load pipes that are 5 metres long and 30 centimetres wide, other things such as pallets (because they are 1.2 metres wide and fit next to each other) cannot be loaded correctly and you would have to load only 1 pallet while 2 pallets would fit. So the length of the goods also plays a role in the price of a transport or removal.
Additional transport services
The transport of goods means the transport of goods from one place to another . This is usually misunderstood and we believe that along with it we will be provided with other additional services at no cost. These services may be the following:
- Furniture dissolving.
- Unloading of goods and household goods.
- Loading and unloading of heavy weight (e.g. it is the responsibility of the customer or the shipper if he wants to transport 3 pallets to have a way to load them in the car).
- Loading and unloading from and to floors.
- Safety of goods during transport.
- Loading only the item we want on the truck during transport and no other.
- Use of a hoist or crane.
- Use of a hydraulic door (this item is for the convenience of the carrier and not a mandatory accessory of the truck.
- Transport of goods to different points from those indicated on the invoice.
- Storage of goods or household goods
All of the above are services that may be offered by a transport company but they are not free of charge. So these are factors that increase the cost of a move or a freight transport.
Period of transfer
The time period of a freight transport plays a very important role in the price. For example if you want to make a transfer to Thassos on a specific day during the winter period when there is no route to Thassos. The routes to Thassos during the winter months are not daily as there is no transport work as in the summer months. This results in an increase in the cost of the transfer during the winter months.
